Brian, social issues will prevent some from voting for him, but with the voters he needs to attract, those issues won't hold as much sway. The DSCC better come through, after Schumer et al undercut Miller to nominate Webb.

Bob

Easy! I meant no aspersion. Just recognizing the political reality of introducing a new candidate. The first barrier is imagining him or her in that role, and while you can argue that as a former navy secretary he has the gravitas, I think folks want reassurance when they see him in action. And in the debates, he aquitted himself well.

Newport News Dem

You can imagine him as a U.S. senator.

I can see him as a great Senator Statesman from Virgina!

Brian

I think that social issues are going to be tough on Webb. His website does not mention either abortion or gay marriage. Having that dumb Marriage Amendment on the ballot won't make it any easier for him to win.

Your point about fundraising is well taken. He's going to have to get used to begging for cash. I understand that he hates fundraising - that's bad trait for a Senate chellenger. I wonder how much support he'll get from the DSCC.
