I agree that bloggers should be held accountable. If they are penniless, that's another reason for being careful what they write.

Alice & Jackson, I agree. Bloggers should be held accountable. I think the interesting question is whether it will be to the same standards as journalists, i.e., proof of malice. I also wonder if penniless bloggers will be subject to nuisance suits that they can't afford and what impact that may have on the blogosphere.

Some bloggers need to be sued. If these bloggers had had a brain they would not have needed lawyers.

I'm not sure that I have a problem with any of this. We as bloggers should not have any special protections if we engage in libel or slander. Make up derogatory lies about people who are not public figures and you're going to be in legal trouble. This is nothing new.
